    While this may be true, the fact is that each of your friends and family members likely at least KNOW one business owner. And by simply telling the people who already know and trust you about your services, you now become top of mind if someone is looking for them in the future. 

 Besides, it’s a good first step toward “getting yourself out there” – start with the people who already believe in you! 

 2. Attend live networking events: Did you know that there are likely business owners already gathering in your city (or one near to you, at least!). Many networking events are free and are filled with individuals who could likely be your next client. 

To find networking events in your area, simply go to Meetup.com and search for events 

with the word “entrepreneur” or “business” in the title. 

You can often also find local networking events through your local chamber of commerce. Simply go to Google and search for “Chamber of Commerce (Your City) (Your State)”. Once you find your local Chamber of Commerce website, peruse the site until you can find upcoming events the chamber is hosting! 

3. Join online networking groups: Facebook is one of the top ways I encourage new freelancers to find clients. 

  1. Go to the search bar when you login to Facebook and type in the word “business” or “entrepreneur”
  2. Click on the Groups tab
  3. Search for groups that have over 5000 members, are private (public groups are SUPER spammy) and look like they would be a good fit for finding the types of clients you desire. 
  4. Be sure to answer any questions asked by the group owner upon requesting to enter the group. Many groups will not let you join unless you answer their initial joining questions. 
  5. Once inside the group, simply type in the word “Pinterest” in the search bar of the group. Many times entrepreneurs will post job opportunities inside of groups like these or at least will be asking questions that you can come in and show off your expertise to the whole group! 

I’ll note, the very best Facebook group that is both free to join AND has job opportunities posted every day in it is The Virtual Savvy’s VA Savvies Facebook Group.

  1. Use freelancer job sites like Upwork and Fiverr: Jobs are posted every day for free on these freelancer marketplace. While you’ll have to bid for jobs, there is tons of opportunity hiding in sites like this. 

My expert tip? 

Only search for high paying jobs. In Upwork you can filter the jobs by three dollar signs ($$$) indicating that this business owner is willing to pay more for a more experienced VA.
