Wonder how working from home without a degree possible? and successful? Ever heard of Chasing foxes? I’m so excited about this interview. This wonderful lady and her husband have been one of the few people who helped me out when I was just starting working from home. I am such a big fan.

I knew from the very beginning of my blogging journey, that I need to do an interview with this amazing couple. So they can help more people who wanted to start blogging but with no experience or degree.

They started out just like everyone else. And I can relate to them so much. Make sure to save this post as it is packed with the most helpful tips that can guide both newbies and pros alike.

1. Can you tell me something about yourself?

Hey! My name is Grace Moser and I started my blog Chasing Foxes back in 2016.
We started our blog as a way to get my husband out of his toxic job and start traveling full-time since traveling was a big passion of ours.

We wanted to be able to see the world before we bought a home and had children. And for about 4 years now, we’ll have been to over 30 countries and have had plenty of incredible journeys and experiences.

Now since 2016, we’ve primarily gotten the majority of our pageviews and income from Pinterest and displaying ads on our site, but this year, we’re finally branching out and opening up our own Shopify store which has free and paid products.

We LOVE serving our audience and sharing our travels and giving away freebies and teaching people how to work from home ourselves. And it’s also been REALLY gratifying to see people who have followed our advice and have been able to make a full-time living through their own blog.

2. Could you tell me more about why you started?

Of course!
Well… we wanted to live a life out of the ordinary.
We were both told from a young age that if we went to college, we’d get a good job and be able to live a good life.

However, since our economy has changed so much, that’s not possible for a lot of people, and it just wasn’t the life we felt called to.

We both wanted to build our own life path and explore the world and have time and money freedom to go after the passions we had.

And to be honest, if it wasn’t for my husband Silas, I probably wouldn’t be doing anything like this. He had the BIG vision to start a location independent income and lead an unconventional life. I knew I was meant for something different than working a normal job or going to college, and he felt the same way and helped push me towards something WAY better (even when I didn’t believe in myself to make it work.)

3. Aside from running the business, do you have another job?

Nope! Chasing Foxes is my full-time work!

4. Is your business purely home-based or do you have an office? A digital nomad?

Right now, we’re digital nomads, but at some point in the next year or two, we plan on buying a home and staying there the majority of the time and then head out on trips throughout the year.

5. What for you, if ever, are the advantages of having an office?

I think some of the benefits an office could give me would be to have my own private space where I wasn’t surrounded by people at the coffee shop and be able to determine the noise level and the amount of interaction I had. But also, it would give me space away from my husband.

There is NOTHING wrong with him but… we tend to distract each other a lot, and that’s not so conducive for being productive. haha!

Also, having a home and my own office, and not traveling full-time, would give me the ability to have the organization and setup I wanted. As a full-time traveler, I don’t have the space to carry around a printer or organizing shelves (and other helpful tools & appliances that come with having your own office).

I have to make runs to a nearby printing shop and sometimes just keep papers stuffed in places. So it will be nice to have my own space where I can set things up the way I want to. 🙂
Plus… I also love the idea of designing my own office. LOL

6. If you DON’T have an office, What are the advantages of being home-based?

You get to determine your own schedule!
You get to choose when you wake up and when you start work and quit for the day. There’s no boss telling you to clock in at a certain time, and when you can go home; you get to be your own boss and determine that. Also, if you have loved ones living with you, you get to spend more time with them which can be great. 🙂

7. Why do you think blogging is one of the best businesses to start?

I think blogging is one of the best businesses to start because you get to determine how much you make.
There are some online business or just regular jobs where there’s a cap on how much you can make. I know a blogger who makes MILLIONS a year and only works PART TIME on her blog.

And she doesn’t have an army of people working for her. I think she might just have one person, and together, their hours combined comes out to working a part-time job each week.
They put in the work early on and now they’re reaping the benefits.

Also, if you don’t have a lot of money, then it’s a great option. The startup cost compared to other online businesses is basically nothing. So for very little, you can get hosting for your blog, and for a while, that’s going to be the only money you spend on blogging.

And lastly, you get to determine the ways you make money. So for me, I’ve decided to open up my own Shopify store and give away pretty (free & paid) printables and it’s been a LOT of fun!

6. How do you balance your work life at home and family?

For me, I need to work outside of the house so that I don’t get constantly distracted by wanting to hang out with my husband. So I find a nearby coffee shop that I like and work from there for around 7-8 hours a day.
But it’s pretty good!

When my husband and I come back together in the afternoon, we both like sharing our own ideas on how to grow the blog and the new things we learned and did. And then… we hang out! If things about the blog come up in the evening, that’s fine, we like our business, but we also like spending quality time with each other; so we know how to do that without the business getting the the way.

7. Financially, has having this business been rewarding? Why or why not? Can you give your average monthly income with blogging if it’s okay? and how long does it take you to reach this amount? This will give readers an idea and help them decide to purchase your binder.

It’s been VERY rewarding!

I personally don’t have a college degree, so it’s been so fulfilling to not have to work a job that probably wouldn’t pay someone without a degree very well.
Also, I’ve been able to make friends around the world and make more than if I had gone to college and taken the normal life route.

At the moment, we make around $160k a year, and have been making this from year one. However, this year, we’re planning on boosting that a LOT since we’ve opened up our Shopify store.
Also, we came out recently with a high-value product

that should do very well this month and the rest of the year. It a pretty binder that contains 170+ blog post ideas, but also a TON of bonuses (tips on how to get traffic from Google, a viral blog post checklist, a blog post tracker, and so much more). If your readers want, they can check it out here. 🙂
So it’ll be great to see how that’s done at the end of the year. 🙂

9. Please, share your tips and other information that could help readers.

Tip 1:

I feel like one of the best tips I could give would be this: before you even launch your blog, start writing blog posts, preferably 25-50. Create a free Business Pinterest account so you can share your blog’s content, and practice making Pinterest images with sites like Picmonkey.com or Canva.com.

I say this because I did this before I even started a blog. And when my blog did launch, I had instant traction. And by traction, I mean I had around 12k pageviews in my first month.
For many bloggers, they launch their blog and start at 0. They have no blog posts up and no strategy for getting pageviews. And then many times, they get discouraged and quit early.

But a great way to stop that from happening from you and get FASTER results that most newbie bloggers don’t get is to prepare beforehand and see the incredible results once your blog goes live.

Tips 2:

Find 4+ big bloggers to pull inspiration from. You do NOT have to reinvent the wheel. When we first started our blog, we studied big blogs like Buzzfeed and saw the content they were writing and saw what was going viral for them.

We also saw the pin image styles they were using that were doing well on Pinterest and how they were getting traffic to their site.
Studying and learning from the big bloggers is one of the best ways to speed up the success you have with your own blog and keep you from feeling lost.

Side Note: I say 4+ big bloggers because if one or even two or three bloggers see that you’re primarily making content, pin images, etc. based on their work, they’re going to feel VERY weird about it and might confront you. And trust me, they WILL see it.

I’ve had subscribers email me letting me know about the copycats who copy nearly everything I do. And their pin images pop up on my own main Pinterest home feed. So I want to make sure this doesn’t happen to you. 🙂

Tips 3:

A lot of new bloggers don’t invest in their blogs.
They try to find whatever is free (which is SO fine), but as a blogger, if you want to scale and make your income rise quickly, you’ll need to invest in paid products such as courses or binders that will help get you to where you want to go FASTER.

Because the longer you spend trying to figure out everything on your own and learning the limited tips and tricks you find in free products, the higher the chance is that you’ll quit and never work from home (or anywhere) full-time.

Anyway, I hope the information and tips I gave above were helpful, I really enjoyed sharing them. 🙂

Final Thoughts:

If read this interview thoroughly. You knew that no matter where you are what situation you are in right now. If you are determined you will sure to reach your goals. I’ve always wanted to introduce Chasing Foxes to everyone and let my readers know how amazing they are.

And that everything is possible when you start to believe in yourself. If you want to know how I was able to start blogging on my own. You must check How I started working from home thru blogging.

And remember that I am no professional writer, English is my second language and I started with zero experience. I trust the process and learn. I know anyone can do this too. Mine started with prayers and hard work. Finally. not quitting.
